Dr Thomas McWilliams is a Registrar with the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Physicians. Tom completed his internship and residency at the Gold Coast University Hospital where he was priviledged to complete residency postings in trauma (Level 1 Trauma Centre), orthopaedics, emergency, rehabilitation, and general medicine.
Thomas’ love for sport stems from a football (soccer) career which involved training positions at Brisbane Roar (youth) and Sheffield Wednesday (youth) before making the move to the USA to play Division 1 College Soccer for Saint Francis University in the NCAA Northeast Conference.
His qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Biology (summa cum laude graduate) and a Doctor of Medicine from Griffith University on the Gold Coast (Griffith Award for Academic Excellence). After completing an elective in the USA caring for college athletes, he has subsequently held the position of Head Doctor for the Southport Sharks (Gold Coast) Senior Women’s and Men’s Australian Rules Football teams. Last year Tom was working at Sports Medicine Central Coast and was the assistant doctor for the Central Coast Mariners in the A-League. Other recent sporting appointments included rugby league medical coverage in the Denton Engineering Cup and Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership.
